Specimen Requirement

Swab:

Endocervical: Aptima unisex swab kit

Vaginal: Aptima Multitest swab

Urethral: Aptima unisex swab (males only)

Throat: Aptima Multitest swab

Rectal: Aptima Multitest swab

 

Urine:

First-catch urine: 10-20 ml (testable range 2-30 ml) (Aptima urine specimen transport tube)

Rejection Criteria

Reject if specimen container is unlabeled or leaking.

Reject for inappropriate collection, storage, or transport.

Storage and Transport

Swab: After collection, transport and store the swab in the swab specimen transport tube at 4°C to 30°C until tested. Swab specimens must be assayed with the Aptima assays within 60 days of collection.

 

Urine: 

Sample in specimen cup: store at 2-30C and transport within 24h.

Sample in Aptima urine specimen transport tube: store at 2-30C and transport within 30d.

 

If longer storage is needed, refer to the appropriate Aptima assay package insert.
