Important Note

  • Patient should avoid exercise of the hand or arm immediately before and during specimen collection.
  •  Venous specimen should be obtained without the use of a tourniquet, or immediately after a tourniquet has been applied.
  • Keep specimen on ice after collecting, centrifuge as soon as possible, and immediately remove plasma from red blood cells. 

Specimen Requirements

1 ml plasma collected in a grey top tube (sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate) on ice. 

Avoid hemolysis
