Specimen Type

Unformed stool

Stool: Pass specimen directly into a dry, clean container.

Reject if specimen container is unlabeled or leaking.

Reject for inappropriate storage or transfer.

Reject if inpatient > 3 days.

Transfer the specimen to MCC C&S transport media. Shake the specimen to ensure proper mixing with transport media.

Store specimen in transport media at 2-8C for up to 14d.

Stool without transport media must be received in the lab within 30 minutes of collection.
