Note: If Aerobic/Anaerobic and Brucella Cultures are ordered, the Aerobic bottle can be shared with both orders.
Tissue: Order an aerobic culture with a request to screen for Brucella.
Submit tissue biopsy (pea size) in a sterile container.
Rejection Criteria
Reject if specimen bottle is unlabeled, broken, or leaking.
Reject for inappropriate storage or transport.
Storage and Transport
Blood and body fluids: Transport cultures to the Microbiology Lab within 2 hours at room temperature.
If transport of blood culture bottles is delayed, specimens may be stored at room temperature for up to 48 hours before testing.
Tissue: Transport to the laboratory as soon as possible.
If transport is delayed, store at room temperature for up to 24 hours.
