Specimen Requirement
1.0 mL Li heparin plasma; PST acceptable
Keep specimen on ice.
Centrifuge the sample (cold) at 2-8° C within 15 minutes of collection and separate the plasma. When sending the plasma sample to the hospital lab, it must remain cold. Please place sample in a biohazard bag, place between two frozen ice packs, wrap with bubble wrap and rubber band it together. Plasma samples must arrive at the hospital lab within 2 hours. If it's going to be longer than 2 hours, the sample needs to frozen.
Outreach clinics: sample must be frozen if it will not arrive at the hospital lab within 2 hours from collection and must arrive at the hospital lab frozen. Please ask the courier to make sure the sample goes in their freezer in the van.
Avoid Hemolysis.
Referring lab: separate plasma and send frozen.
