Specimen Requirement

Throat swab: Use a Culturette or eSwab swab to collect the specimen by depressing the tongue with a tongue depressor and swabbing the posterior pharynx, tonsils, and inflamed areas. Be careful NOT to touch oral mucosa, tongue, or teeth with the swab. Remove the swab and place in the transport tube.

Note: Order throat culture in case of negative Group A Strep screen/culture and concern for bacterial pharyngitis.
Order GC culture as indicated.
